Talocan rocks and labyrinths

The Jove are thought to have found the ancient Talocan wormhole control network and gained access to the wormhole cluster Anoikis via it. The Jovian wormhole settlers are believed to be the forefathers of the Sleeper civilization. And many experts (including authorities in the field such as Uriel Anteovnuecci) theorize that the Drifters are, in turn, offshoots from the Sleepers. This is a reasonable assumption, given that they live in Anoikis. In addition, technology such as the thermo-electric convertors that the Drifters use to power their structures clearly bear the hallmark of the Sleepers.

The start of the chain of knowledge transfer for advanced spacetime engineering seems to be the Talocan, and this begs the question of whether the Drifter's Nexus superstructure is also based on Talocan spacetime engineering. And since the Nexus appears to influence spacetime also in our own cluster (via the appearance of phased fields), I would conjecture that it could influence other structures in our cluster as well, namely structures built with the very same Talocan spacetime technology.

The main "suspect" for me is the Takmahl labyrinth. There is a link from the Talocan not only to the Drifters but in parallel also to the Takmahl. The Drifters chose wormholes which have certain rock formations that are of particular ritual importance to the Talocan. Those are very much different from the asteroids found in belts in common Anoikis systems. Also the Takmahl incorporated most unusual rock formations in their cult.

The Talocan must have liked labyrinths too, and both Drifter and Takmahl cultures indebted to them have inherited this peculiar penchant for mazes. Although they are very different in nature, spacetime engineered labyrinths have been found in both Drifter and Takmahl home systems.

This makes me wonder whether the current changes in our spacetime allegedly due to Nexus tinkering may have induced changes in the Takmahl labyrinth too. I am planning to revisit it, but will need to enlist the help of SFRIM pilots to keep the Blood Raiders that infest that labyrinth at bay...

Escape route

Amarr Navy reports show that the Drifters took massive losses in Sanctified Vidette, but despite this, very few were actually captured. At least, that we are allowed to know. What happened to the occupants of the abandoned stations? How did they escape reclamation? At least some Holders that I know are already inquiring about Drifter slaves...

I think I have found a possible explanation. I located a Drifter station functioning on autopilot. It has two factory units coupled to a powergrid distribution array feeding a ring of thermoelectric convertors. This setup generates a Talocan-type wormhole conduit, visible here in the center of the guard ring:

My guess is that this is one of perhaps several portals that the Drifters used to evacuate their population from Sanctified Vidette. To where it leads is unclear - I found no way to interface with the station or to activate the conduit. I stopped short from entering this station to explore it further, it seems wiser to leave this to the professionals of the Amarr Navy.

Remnants of the Drifter occupation

I am continuing my review of Sanctified Vidette after its reclamation.

Although the Empire secured its presence in Sanctified Vidette, there are still traces of the occupation by the Drifters, places where there structures or outposts stood. Except for the hive, none of these appear actively used.

Most of the Drifter defenses and stations are thoroughly destroyed. Only useless rubble, such as broken station batteries and destroyed hulls, remain, floating in a swirling debris cloud. An example of this is found near Sanctified Vidette X :

Closer to the inner planets of Sanctified Vidette, I found a Drifter research station, abandoned but still with some traces of powergrid. It appears to have experienced a terrible accident, which has led to a large outgrowth of... well, something. It seems partly serpentine rock, partly organic tendrils enveloping the station as if they will consume it.

The tendrils seem to sprout from the station itself, emerging from various parts of the Drifter habitat.

There is also an abandoned Drifter manufacturing plant nearby - recognisable from it distinct flat-rectangle shaped factory. Also this has suffered a crippling accident:

The clear hint of trouble is the blue gaseous vapors surrounding the factory module in the center of the guard ring with power stations. I have seen such industrial modules before, during the Drifter crisis, and they are not supposed to be venting their atmosphere...

Nexus Conquered

At the heart of the Drifter's operations there used to be a mysterious construct, consisting of many bar-shaped objects. It was once assembled into an "urchin" configuration, I heard. There are electric discharges between the bars, and some claim the frequency of the lightning had been increasing. Below, you see on the historical image also the beam of a Tekton Tyrannos industrial Drifter ship working on one of the bars:

Now that we have captured Sanctified Vidette, all these bars have been brought to the Amarr Navy base in Sanctified Vidette, and assembled into a long hollow needle-like structure:

The scale, as you can see, is immense. I had been told about this, but wanted to see it with my own eyes. To get an idea of the scale of this megastructure, the picture below shows the Indagatrix emerging from the top of the needle - it is nearly invisibly small, a dot that I have to circle for you to even see it.

Our scientists are investigating this - we still do not quite know its function or capabilities. The bars have been somewhat damaged during the combat operations, as you can see from the scorch marks and cracks on their hull:

The "needle" superstructure is hollow, with a conduit going from the top all the way to the bottom, which can be traversed without any adverse effects:

We can only wonder at what mysteries will this object reveal. May it bring glory to the Empire!

Pareidolia

Humans are primed -by evolution- to recognize faces and facial expressions. It is a useful trait to quickly see another face and interpret whether it is friendly or not. As a result, we tend to see them often also in inanimate objects, even if there is no face. This effect is called "pareidolia".

Indeed, there are many stories of people seeing the face of a famous saint appear on toast bread.

Now, I do not believe that randomly burned pieces of toast convey heavenly messages, but you have to admit that the asteroid below does look as if it has two dark eyes staring right at you (and a very knobbly head, and tentacles).

They are not happy eyes.

The asteroid in question is located in a Drifter wormhole, where there is little reason for happiness. Of course, the pareidolia here is caused by the effect of light falling on the rock, but still, I found it an ominous sight. More evil is what the monstrous shape seems to hold in front of its tentacles:

It is a colony of sorts. Not a sleeper colony, those look very different. This one looks more suited for regular human habitation, like a regular asteroid colony. It has windowed towers sticking out from both poles of the round asteroid. Very likely it is a prison colony, given the fact that it is surrounded by four defensive Drifter sentries. There are many other unanswered questions about this, for example why this was placed near the large, unhappy looking asteroid, but not built on the larger one.

Mr. Firth allowed me to share these pictures, as long as I do not reveal the precise location, while we find out more about it.

Battering the battering ram

The Drifters are building disc-like structures in Turnur. These are some sort of battering rams that can impact the Fulcrum's event horizon wall protecting Zarzakh against intruders.

After a cycle of attack on the Fulcrum's lock, the breaching device shown above hides in a spacetime shell until it is ready to redeploy.

Under the command of DutchGunner from the Arataka Research Consortium, the fleet did something that is not very research-like. They must think R&D stands for Research and Destroy. The fleet not only defended itself against the Drifters attacking it, but it launched an counterattack on the event horizon breacher structure. Staying true to my vow of non-agression, I did not take offensive actions but I concentrated completely on providing remote repairs for the fleet. It was one of the most challenging "logi" jobs I have done thusfar, as the large enemy fleet was spreading out damage and neuts all over our vastly outnumbered flotilla: three Guardians to keep eight other ships (and themselves) alive.

It worked. Not one ship was lost during the ten long and grueling waves of attackers.

The technology that we retrieved appears based mostly on gravitoleptonic field manipulation. In addition to well known electron spin resonance devices, also muon cosmic resonances were found - signal beacons containing wormhole resonance frequencies. The device uses these as scripts to be loaded into a "phryctorian generator" that creates a wormhole. Below is an image of the generator: it is the small dark structure with five control centers connected to it; it is hovering right above the central emitter port of the disk (you can also see it in the first image of this log entry).

Sadly after the attack, the generator was damaged beyond repair. Near the control towers for the phryctorian generator, we found neurovisial input matrices in the debris. These specialized Drifter controllers allow operators to process large amounts of sensory data. To me this suggests that the spacetime tunnels that the device initiates must then be steered manually by Drifter operators through spacetime towards its target. It would hit Zarzakh's horizon wall and attempt to pierce it.

All these finding are very worrisome: from what I can gather here, the Drifters possess the technology to weave artificial wormholes to anywhere they want. It looked as if this is also how they brought reinforcements to attack our fleet. That is quite unlike jump gates, that require a long process of building, and must be positioned at specially selected quantum entangled resonant points. It is also unlike jump drives that can transport only one (or a few) ships over a relatively short distance of a few light years and require a cynosural beacon on the other side to anchor the jump tunnel. Even the shipcaster devices -needing a huge amount of power- require a beacon in their target system. But the Drifters appear able to steer a wormhole exit to a point of their choice, not bookmarked or visited before, without the presence of a gate on the other side. Weaponized wormholes.

Who knows, used for peaceful purposes this technology may help repair Eve Gate...

Drifters in Turnur

The system of Zarzakh - where the pirate calling himself the Deathless is holed up - is a black hole system. Not a usual one: it has some sort of defensive double-wall event horizon that can be put up around the system. The wall is an impressive feat of spacetime engineering by the Jovians: it is able to effectively seal off the system in four dimensional spacetime. This defensive system has recently been activated from deep within the Fulcrum, the Jovian station in system, occupied by the Deathless. Now nothing can enter or leave the system without being granted passage by those inside the Fulcrum.

The Drifters, enemies of the Empire, are laying siege to Zarzakh. Like a siege of a fortified town during the Udorian wars, they need siege engines to breach the town walls. The Drifters deploy devices to breach Zarzakh's protective event horizon wall in the systems with a gate to it. They want to punch their own holes through that defensive wall and perhaps capture Zarzakh to use it for their own evil purposes, and/or prevent the Deathless from obtaining more Jovian technology by evicting him from his fortress.

Most of our capsuleers just sit back and happily watch how our two enemies, Drifters and the Deathless, kill each other. To others, a Drifter foothold in the Empire, in Turnur, is an unbearable insult. I feel a bit of both these emotions, and in addition I am curious about what artifacts and new technology can be retrieved from those event horizon breaching devices.

We can not let outsiders alone investigate this. I will join a fleet by the international Arataka Research Consortium, and will be providing logistical support and remote repairs from a Guardian-class vessel. My political officer, Mr. Firth, was inclined to find this mission too dangerous and best left to the Navy, but in the end agreed that these foreign agents should be monitored while in Turnur.

The fleet is assembled in the Jita trade hub, and will use the auspicious appearance of a wormhole connecting Turnur to a system just a few jumps from Jita. Certainly, this is a sign that God approves of this mission.
